Kids Say The Darndest Things

Tonight at dinner Kyri was pretty much done eating and just started making a mess and was just being silly. This is the conversation that took place:

Me: "Kyri, are you ready to get down?"
Kyri: "No!"
Me: "What are you going to do? Just sit there?"
Kyri: "No!"
Me: "Well, what are you going to do then?"
Kyri: "Dink around!!"

And that she did.

Terrible 2?!?!

I can't believe our Kyri girl is already 2!! Where does the time go? She is getting so big and everyday we're reminded that she is no longer a baby, but an actual kid!! We love her SO much and were so happy to celebrate her turning 2! And it seems like she was pretty happy about the celebration too! Yesterday she was being kind of naughty. I said, "Kyri do you want to go to time out? Of course she said no. So I told her to pick up all the cheerios she spilled. As she was picking them up she said, "Happy Birthday, Mommy!!" How can you send someone like that to timeout? I couldn't...and tonight after she got in bed we could hear her in her room singing, "Happy Birthday to Kyri!" TOO cute!!

"These boots were made for walkin'!"
This is her on her actual birthday (yesterday) in one of her new outfits from "Grammy and Papa" Allen (Thanks!!)
We decided to celebrate her birthday today. This morning Gary was making her cake (see below) and I had her try on a dress she'd never worn before. She twisted it all around, got tangled in it and said, "Playin' dress up!!" Then she just HAD to taste the powdered sugar ("I like sugar!!") and frosting....of course.
Spoiled little brat? Nope. Just spoiled!!!
Here she is with her presents from "Daddy-o, Mommy-o, Grammy, and Papa (Mecham)"
Trying out her new Princess chair from Grammy and Papa (Thanks!!)
Last year Gary really wanted to make Kyri's birthday cake (there was no argument from me) and he had so much fun he decided to make that a tradition...for all the kids...for all their birthdays. VERY impressive, if you ask me!!
Kyri loved her ladybug cake! When Gary was putting on the finishing touches Kyri kept saying, "Turn the ladybug, Daddy-o!!!" And when he would turn it so she could see it's face she would excitedly say, "Aahh...THANX, Daddy-o!!"
What a great daddy to make such a cute cute CUTE cake for his little princess girl!

Well, Kyri turning 2 couldn't come without a terrible 2 story, apparently. Just the other day Gary and I took the 2 kids to Smith's....so we could take advantage of their case lot sale. Boy was it BUSY!! We each had a shopping cart. 1 child with each cart with each parent. Not a bad system. Well, it was time to check out and Gary realized we forgot something. He ran to grab it, so I got between the 2 carts and started unloading things on the conveyor belt. Gary barely made it back in time...and was doing who knows what...I got my coupons situated, paid for it all and felt like things were a bit frantic! Gary was pushing Graysen out, I was pushing Kyri...I looked up and saw a chocolate face, then a chocolate hand, then an empty wrapper!! "Chocolate, Mommy!" Clearly. "Where did you get that? Why are you eating that? We never paid for that!" I quickly ran back and paid for the chocolate. Not just any chocolate. A Lindt Lindor Truffle! Thank goodness she picked something small. Thank goodness she picked something that saved me 8 cents with my Fresh Values Card. And thank goodness she only stole one!! Needless to say we had a little "we don't steal...you must always ask mommy or daddy" talk on our way out to the car. I said, "Kyri do you understand?!" Her reply, "YES!! (yea! my parenting skills are working!) (pause) I like it!!" Oh boy. Of course you do...your mother is a chocoholic...poor girl felt like she had no choice but to steal it...as if there's not enough in this house...or maybe she just realized what IS in this house isn't nearly that good!!

Let the terrible 2s begin!

Happy Birthday, Kyri!!

A Day At The Lake

Grandma and Grandpa Allen ("Grammy and Papa") came to visit us about a week before we actually went to the lake, and so you can imagine the ear full I heard every day for a week! Kyri was SO excited to "ride Papa's boat!" And her excitement was not in vain....she really had a great time! We all did! We met Jimmy, Meagan, Todd, and Heather in St George Saturday morning and met up with Pops and Mops when they got done at the Temple that afternoon. We literally spent a DAY at the lake...and loved every minute of it! Here's some photos to prove it:

Preparation

nothin' beats a bowl full of mush before a long day in the sun
Kyri was SO excited to go! As soon as she woke up she put her life jacket on (backwards) over her jammies. We couldn't get ready fast enough!

ACTION

Just happy to be on the lake....or is he just happy that Meagan (or "Meggy", if you ask Kyri) is holding him? Probably a little of both.
Kyri sporting her "sunscreen hair", since the wind from the speed of the boat kept blowing her hat off.
"this lifejacket isn't so bad...in fact, it's kinda comfy"
Happy to be close to the water, as long as she doesn't have to get in. Her favorite part of the whole trip was when she could "push" someone/anyone into the water.
"Meggy", Kyri, and "Header" just sticking their feet in to test the temperature of the water
The whole family on the tube...we were going SUPER fast, in case you couldn't tell by how taut the rope is. :) Graysen wasn't too sure about it (I forgot his hat, so the sun was in his eyes), Kyri was just chill (she was pretty tired so she was kind of emotionless), and Gary and I were holding on for dear life so Pops wouldn't flip us into the water! :) Thanks for the ride...at least we have a family memory of tubing.
What a pro!!
Result
What a FUN day in the sun....enough to wear out the best of 'em!

Nothin gets a baby to stop fussing and go right to sleep faster than the hum of a Centurion Typhoon
Kyri fell asleep while being the "flag girl" with daddy. When we put her down she was mostly in the sun so we put her hat over her eyes and a blanket to keep her shaded...she slept like a baby!
Thanks everyone for such a GREAT day at the lake and a fabulous weekend!!

New Friends

While we were in Nevada Gary's friend, Ben, and his family stopped by. He and his wife, Jenn, have a girl, Taiz, who's 2 months younger than Kyri and a boy, Paxton, who's 2 weeks younger than Graysen. We keep up on each others blogs and have commented on how similar our lives are, but we never see each other. So it was fun to get together and really see just how alike our day to day activities really are!!

Here's the girls eating strawberries. I think this was the only time I saw Taiz sit still for more than a few seconds. She is SO stinkin cute and SO full of energy....Kyri enjoyed staring at her and following her around.

And here's the boys....already best friends. Too cute!!
Thanks, you guys, for stopping by! It was great to see you and for all of us (except Gary and Ben, of course) to make some new (face to face) friends!!

4 Months

A couple weeks ago we had Graysen's 4 month check-up. He weighed 15 1/2 lbs and was 25 1/2 in long (both in the 75 percentile). He's getting so big so fast and is just SO much fun! He smiles all the time. Even the Dr commented on how smiley he is. And he loves to laugh! He loves watching his sister and gets frustrated that he can't get up and do things with her. Of course it's always sad when your kids have to get shots, but this time was especially sad. Graysen started crying before they even stuck him with the needles!! But he's a tough little man and pulled through just fine! We love having him around!

just chillaxin'
We started Graysen on rice cereal in hopes that he would feed less often during the day...so far no luck...he loves to eat about every 2 or 2 1/2 hours. The Dr said it's because he sleeps for so many hours at night (thank you little man!!) that he's making up for it during the day....as frustrating as it gets to feed him SO often I will take the sleeping through the night any day!!
And Graysen always wants to be sitting up so he can be up in everyone's business...the perfect solution? Bumbo chair!!!

Friends & Family = F-U-N!!

We have been so busy lately! It's been a lot of fun, but most of the time I forget to take pictures. Here's a few (ok, several) pictures we did take of our fun times!!

BFFs!! cousin Rylee was born 4 days before Graysen
Kyri will never pass up an opportunity to hold a baby! Especially her cute cousins!!
Graysen and Kyri with their friend, Quinn, just before he moved to Michigan
Best Buds
Quinn is 2 months older than Graysen and SO stinkin cute!! We already miss him! I love this picture because Quinn was just leaning on Graysen...just chillin....and Graysen was happy to let him do it!!
Us with Quinn and his parents Ali and Jeff. We miss them SO much! We sat by the Jensen's in church every Sunday and did a lot of fun things with them. Kyri still talks about them and asks if Quinn and Ali can go on walks with us. Thanks for being such great friends and for loving our kids so much and for having such a CUTE little Quinn!! We can't wait to see you in December!
Graysen and cousin Alyssa squished in the stroller....too bad the sound sleeping didn't last long
After the lipstick incident we finally made it up to Snowbird. Kyri loved playing with the older girls, Isabelle and Sophie, but she especially loved feeding them "cheese turds"...and I think they were having just as good of a time!!
Kyri and Brody having fun in the sand at Bear Lake
It was overcast and cold, but that didn't stop us from enjoying a little time on the beach!
Grammy (as Kyri would say) and Graysen soaking up the....clouds
nothin beats a good dig in the sand!
Nichole tried to take Brody on the raft, but he didn't want to "go out to sea!!!"
Not happy to be squished in the stroller...once again...but still cute!

The Assistant

This was a long time ago, but I am WAY behind on blogging, so I'm just now getting around to updating it. Anyway, I finally got to the point where my hair needed to be cut or I was going to pull it all out!! I wanted to do it myself because I had this image in my head of how I wanted it to look and wasn't sure I could tell someone else exactly how to do it. However, we only have a small mirror and a very tiny hand held mirror, so the back was a bit tricky. Thanks to my lovely assistant, Gary, I was able to have a nice short cut!

I had already cut the back and asked Gary to just make sure it was even....but we got busy chatting.....
...and taking pictures....and I suddenly said (in a bit of a panic), "I think you better stop!! I think you've done enough...you keep cutting and cutting and I just wanted to make sure it was even!!!" Gary lets out a slight laugh and says, "oh, I thought you wanted me to cut it shorter." And cut it he did! About an inch shorter than planned!
But I must admit he did a pretty darn good job!!!
One of the best haircuts I've ever had!!
