Another Long Night

Just when we thought we were going to go home and spend some quality time with Tanzi and the kids, the doctors and medical staff had something else in mind. Here is how the story goes.........
Ever since Tanzi was born, she has been spitting up this green, bile, mucus stuff. The doctors and nurses didn't think much of it because they just thought she had gone stinky before she was born and has swallowed some of the junk and was just trying to spit it all back up. Wednesday and Thursday seemed to be going fine and Tanzi was nursing and being just a perfect little angel. We were just getting everything ready Thursday night so we could come home on Friday when Tanzi spit the nasty stuff up again. They decided to run some more tests to see what was going on. Shortly after that, they came and told us that they were going to put her in the NICU because she was really dehydrated and they were still concerned with the "green stuff". After about an hour, the doctor told us they were going to life flight her to Primary Children's. There was some blockage in her intestines and they didn't know what was causing it so they decided to fly her down to SLC.

We got in the car, stopped at the house, and then drove down to Primary Children's. It was about 1:30 am when we got down there. We went in and saw her and she looked so peaceful. They didn't have much of a diagnosis yet, but said they would keep us updated as soon as the doctors had a chance to figure out what to do. The nice people at the hospital gave us some blankets and pillows and we just slept (if that is what you want to call it) in the NICU waiting area. Around 6 am, one of the physicians came in and told us that they were going to perform surgery on Tanzi a little bit later in the morning to try and see what the problem was with her intestine.

Around 10 they informed us that they were ready for the surgery. Mauri and I both held it together pretty good, but we were still a little emotional. The medical staff was wonderful though and really made us feel good and that everything was be just fine. The surgery lasted for about an hour and a half. After it was all over, the surgeon came and told us that everything went really well. She told us the small intestine had twisted and kinked itself and so it wasn't able to grow and develop. They corrected it and put a stint in to make sure it continued to allow passage through it and to not seal off again. We were so relieved and felt so comforted to know everything went great. Now, Tanzi will spend 2-3 weeks in the NICU to get better and to make sure she can eat and her intestines can function the way they are supposed to. We are so grateful for all the love and support from our families and friends. Tanzi will be just fine, it will just take some time to recover so we can finally bring her home!

Tanzi so peaceful and precious before we found out anything was wrong.

Tanzi in the NICU at MakayDee waiting for the life flight helicopter to get there.

In the transport capsule all strapped down and secure.

On the way out to the helicopter.

They let us go up to the helicopter and everything, it was really neat. They took really good care of us.

Right before they took off getting their helmets on with Tanzi in the background.

Our first look at her once we made it down to Primary Children's.

Right after the surgery. The big patch on her tummy is where her incision is.

It is just hard to see our little princess looking this way, but we are so grateful that there are great doctors and medical professionals that can fix her up.

Just a look at all the monitors, tubes, and gadgets hooked up to Tanzi.
